6th Day of Christmas

By Alyse Neibaur

I just finished up teaching piano for the week, working with those wonderful kids inspired me to comment today on one of the most meaningful things to me music. It can reach in and touch my heart in a way nothing else can. It has the power to heal and express emotions I at times cannot say any other way. Berthold Auerbach said it best, "Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life."

Whether it is rock, classic, country, pop, gospel, or any other kind of music you prefer the magic is still the same.

And the night shall be filled with music,
And the cares that infest the day
Shall fold their tents like the Arabs
And as silently steal away.
~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, The Day Is Done

  1. Music is very powerful. It can bring us up, it can bring us down. It's absence can make us cry when our MP3 players stop working.

    I need a hug!

  2. Music actually changes the chemicals in your brain. That's why it can make you feel better or worse instantly. My uncle, a psychologist, told me that music can be a great aid in dealing with depression. :)

Hence the reason I listen to a lot of music.

  4. Thank you, my sister, for sharing this great blessing. You neglected to mention that as well as teaching piano, you play piano and have a beautiful voice that brightens the room as is comes forth.

Music to me is one of the instant-accesses to my innermost self. As much as I read, even more there is music. Usually it comes from surrounding sounds or soundtracks. Sometimes is it the harmonies of the heart.

May your world ever be bright with music, Holly.

*goes over to give Becca-chan hugs*
