I hadn't seen many movies in the theatres in the past couple years. But, this last month I have enjoyed the short escape of the movie theatre and seen more movies than I had the whole previous year.
Then this morning, as I was working on a current event assignment for a class I found this article on KSL. So apparently I'm normal in my desire to go escape at the movies.
Movie theaters doing well in down economy

The economy might be slowing down, but that's not keeping people from heading to the movies. Many haven't just been going to the movies; they've been flocking to see films.
Megaplex Theaters spokesman Jeff Whipple says the theater chain had a record-setting January in ticket sales, up 26 percent from January one year ago "I think people are realizing life goes on, and so we still need to entertain ourselves. We need to find a way to escape the commotion of the regular world. People have realized that movie and popcorn is a pretty good value," Whipple said.
He says Hollywood, in general, had $1 billion in ticket sales in January for the first time ever, and that's without any major blockbuster movies out at this time.
Now if I they had all been good movies, that I enjoyed, maybe I would feel better about the high January ticket sales. Yet, tomorrow I am going to see another movie, so I apparently live in hope of finding good movies at the theatres.

And this is why Adam still has a job. :)
ReplyDeleteYes, the entertainment industry will thrive! It even thrived during The Great Depression. It's definitely a human need.
I'm guilty, too. After debating back and forth for years, the DVD "Into The Woods" is going onto my Wish List. In fact, most of my Wish List is movies or books. Yep, entertainment is needed to take a break from and balance the responsibilities of life.
